Veteran's Day

This week was a tough one. I actually almost forgot to write an installment this week because I felt like nothing good happened. I'm sitting in a hotel room in Orange Beach, AL where I'll get trained as a training specialist for the Military Child Education Coalition. It's a great resume addition and networking opportunity, but it's a less than part time position. I'm just trying to fill my time as much as I can. I still haven't heard a peep about the SOCOM RCC position. I plan to follow up tomorrow with the recruiter. For now, I'm just trying to enjoy this view:

Like I said, I had a tough week, with a few good things sprinkled in. My lack of a job has become a giant black cloud, so even when I am out doing something fun or relaxing, I'm thinking about how I'm halfway through my unemployment benefits and worrying about how I'm going to afford Christmas presents this year. I apply for 2-5 jobs a day, on average and hear back from maybe 1/10 of them. It's depressing.

We got our magic bands for Disney this week, and I started making s packing list, etc. I also attended a webinar with Aubrey to make a plan for the Christmas Party while we are there. While I am looking forward to this trip soooo much, I'm also very aware of the crash that will happen when I get back and have nothing to look forward to.

I spent a lot of time talking to Bryan, either via chat, phone, or video chat. We're still trying to get our moving damages claim taken care of, so I've been handling some of that. I did some mundane things, like getting an oil change (free! Thanks Hearts Apart program!) and attending the University of Phoenix General Faculty Meeting online.

Friday I went to a fellow spouse's to make some Christmas nail art and it turned out pretty cute.

Saturday morning I went to an open gym class with a friend for a Veteran's Day salute workout. It was great to be back in a class like this. I plan to join as soon as I have the cash flow because it was super motivating!

Veteran's Day was sad this year. I stayed at home most of the day thinking about our current situation. I don't think I've mentioned this here, or anywhere yet, but Bryan received orders to SNCOA (senior non-commissioned officer academy) in early July. By the time he goes to that and comes home, he will have been "away" for 12 months. One month of PCSing from one base to another, five weeks of training in TX, the actual deployment, and then the month in SNCOA. He'll have a few weeks in between returning from deployment and going to SNCOA, but he'll have to in process and all that jazz.

If you're wondering how Bryan is doing, I'll tell ya! He's doing pretty well. He has gotten off base a couple times, but mostly to get supplies for things, nothing recreational. He's been studying one hour a day for his promotion test. He works out 6 days a week (Not on Monday) at 430am and reports that He has gained 5 pounds. He is the acting First Sergeant at his location so he's in charge of all enlisted personal and family issues. He's also the Superintendent of utilities. He's been studying to take two CLEP exams to earn college credit and his Project Management Certification. He also plans to take one or two college classes toward his Bachelors degree while he's there. We talked about that today. Last night there was a major earthquake in his region that shook him out of bed. All of the RED HORSE guys are safe.

Saturday night I went for dinner and drinks for a spouse's birthday, which is always a nice distraction. We ate at Crab Island Cantina (very good, but pricey!) and did some bar hopping, and even a little dancing.

Sunday I had a lazy day around the house. I packed for my trip this week and got Hoss ready for boarding. Then I met 5 other spouses at the movies to see Bad Moms Christmas. Update on the vacant house next door- the owner passed away this weekend. I'm not sure what will happen to it now.

After I get home this Thursday, I have a lot of travel the next few weeks. I plan to head to Daytona to see my mom for Thanksgiving. The following week, I'll head to Panama City to do a Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) training and then head straight back to my mom's for our Disney trip. I'll keep you all posted on the job situation. In the meantime, here's a picture of a Veteran's Day craft Laura's son made honoring Bryan. Made me cry ❤
