Finally Fall

Image
It's finally fall here on the Gulf coast! Well, at least for a day or two until it gets back up to 80 degrees this week. But today it's 55 and sunny and smells like fall outside! Speaking of finally, I also finally got a picture of me mowing so here you go! It's not as much of a miserable chore now that it's not 100 degrees and 100% humidity. This week was a bit uneventful. I spent some time chatting with my neighbor Kristen nextdoor, which is always nice and took Hoss for a couple walks. I participated in a research study for a Master's student who's researching military spouse employment just like I did, and we talked about possibly collaborating. Wednesday night I met a new friend from Geek Girl Brunch for sushi. The place was awesome! I HIGHLY recommend the Slippery Mermaid in Navarre! I watched an entire season of Harlots on Hulu and I'm starting Stra her Things. In work related news, I have an interview tomorrow, but I'm not excited about

Getting My Geek On

I'm starting off this blog with that picture because it was definitely the highlight of my week! I'll explain further down. So, this week was a bit uneventful. The good news is that I still have some job stuff percolating. I am also heading to Orange Beach, AL for a training to become a Military Child Education Coalition trainer. It's a less-than-part-time gig, giving trainings to base personnel in my region as needed. Figured it's a great resume builder and good experience, so why not? I ordered a few cheap items for the kids for Disney, including these adorable autograph books that came. I'm getting super excited, we're 40 days away! I had a great Key Spouse meeting to start the week off and loved getting to know everyone a little better. I did some boring stuff like going to base finance to check on something for Bryan and my usual gym days. I had a fantastic beach day with a fellow Red Horse spouse and her adorable daughter. I finally had

Red Horse Wives Gone Wild

5 weeks have gone by, but this week had some ups and downs. Tuesday was a quiet day. I needed a day to do laundry etc. after visiting my mom. Hoss was wiped out too, as you can see.  I've had a few more nibbles this week regarding jobs. One is working with Prudential/USO on a financial counseling program for Military members, another possibility is the Recovery Care Coordinator position for SOCOM. In addition, I met another military spouse that works at the local YMCA. She said they need spin instructors so I'm planning to check it out tomorrow. In the meantime, I have found some fun ways to make money or get freebies. 23 and Me is conducting a study and I'm giving my spit for $100. Also doing a coffee kcup study where I'll get 72 kcups for free just to report back on how I liked them.  Wednesday I was expecting to have an emotional day since Bryan was supposed to finally leave the country. Of course, there were delays, many delays, and he didn't l

One Month Down

Image
Wow. It's been a whole month already. In some ways, I can't believe it went so fast. Other times it seems like time is just dragging. This week was very eventful. I got the absolute worst news about a GS job I matched for. Let's just say that due to a clerical error, I didn't get the position. And there's nothing I could do about it. It was devastating. I cried. A lot. So, I'm back to square one (aka unemployment). I did get another interview for something else and should hear something this week...so fingers crossed. Actually, just keep them crossed until I get any job. Tuesday I got up bright and early to make Fast Pass selections for our Disney trip. I got everything I wanted, so at least I have that trip to look forward to. I also decided to go visit my mom in light of the job news. Wednesday we had a Squadron town hall and then I organized a pizza night at a local pizza place by my house. It was nice to get out with these gals and get to know them a l

Week 3 slump

Well, another week has gone by and this one was a whirlwind, and then a black hole. It started out fast, starting a new job and diving right in. Monday I had to mow the lawn after work since it rained all day Sunday. Tuesday was my second full day of work, and while I was busy, I was quickly realizing I didn't think this work was for me. I hadn't left my house 3 straight days and was quickly going crazy. Wednesday morning I got some job news that caused me to terminate my contract with the consulting company, but since nothing is official yet, I'm going to wait to tell you about it. Either way, I'm unemployed again, for the time being. I also got my hair colored Wednesday and have to thank Rachel and Maria for referring me to Kirsten because she was amazing! She matched my color perfectly! Thursday I went to the beach early, and when I came home, the last pieces of my bed had been delivered. This meant I had work to do that involved a drill and lifting my 70 pound mat
